Traffic Signal Box Commissions Awarded!

Five Traffic Signal Boxes in Downtown Missoula have officially been commissioned. Artists in Missoula County created and submitted work which was then reviewed by a selection committee made up of Public Art Committee members, neighborhoods representatives and other stakeholders.

The City of Missoula Public Art Committee is so excited to have fresh new boxes in our downtown area! Our final artists are: Hannah Schultz, M. Scott Miller, Lillian R. Nelson and Karen Slobod. All of their pieces encompass very different qualities, techniques and concepts. Also, this year, artist Greg Siple, is recreating his box, Biking to Missoula outside of Worden’s Market.

Artists will be painting/vinyling their box between September 28th - October 3rd! Signal box locations are Orange & Spruce, Higgins & Pine, Broadway & Orange, Broadway & Higgins, and Higgins & Spruce. Be sure to stop by and cheer on the artists as they work. Join us for the dedication/opening event on First Friday, October 5th at 6pm at the Dana Gallery. This year’s Traffic Signal Box Artists will be present to give a few words on their box process and inspiration. All are welcome!

Here are sneak peak images of our four new box models:
